When you’re building a product, you can easily get overwhelmed by ideas. While some of these ideas are unsolicited and may not relate to your current outcome or the opportunities you’re pursuing, that doesn’t mean you want to ignore or discard them completely. But coming up with ideas is the easy part. For this reason, product teams need to develop a process for ideamanagement. The two biggest challenges for ideamanagement are efficiently and consistently recording and organizing ideas followed by actually making good use of them. Ideas are fleeting.
There is no shortage of product ideas. Customerfeedback, feature requests, and new ideas born from your interpretation of your product strategy—can all be the starting point for your company’s next great opportunity. How are product teams managing their ideas today? An idea alone does not solve a problem.
Userfeedback, it’s surprising how often it’s overlooked or ignored. Seasoned Product Managers may feel they’ve previously heard everything they need to know to make a decision. New Product Managers may be in their first customer facing role, and gathering userfeedback is outside their comfort zone.
Even though it was frustrating, I understood why the software vendor was trying to gather customerfeedback—to help with 2018 planning.
