Once upon a time I believed that to be a successful product manager, I simply had to create great products. For years I’ve helped my clients create new digital products and services for their customers. We threw terms like product/marketfit around, without ever really giving a thought to what they meant.
Productmarketfit, often just called product/market or “P/M” is one of the most important Lean Startup concepts. There is a lot of information out there about why it’s important for having a successful product and grow your business, but finding out how to achieve product-marketfit can still feel elusive.
Now, the general consensus seems to be that the MRD is dead as the Dodo, replaced by a product backlog, groomed by a product owner, and lean startup techniques that encourage build/test/evaluate/pivot cycles until you achieve the magical “product-marketfit” that is the manna from heaven to a modern corp.
